Cement Paste Shrinks resulting in hollowness behind Tiles.
Ceramic wall tile has water absorption of 10-13% and floor tile has water absorption of 3-6%.
Poselano tile has water absorption of 0.5-3%
Vitrified and glass mosaic tile has water absorption less than 0.5%

Floating method : Adhesive applied only to the fixing surface , usally with a trowel to obtain uniform layer and than combed with notched trowel. The tiles are than fixed before a film forms on the surface of the adhesive
Floating and buttering method : Adhesive applied on to the fixing surface and on reverse side of tile.. Method adopted for bigger tile of size more than 400mmx400mm
Thin-bed : Tiling with Tile Adhesive
Flow-bed : Tiling with Tile Adhesive in Fluid Consistence
Thick-bed : Tiling on fresh screed
